Two Men Can Leave Silverstone Leading the World Championship, and Both of Them Ride Aprilias
Jorge Martín led every lap of Saturday's ten-lap sprint, taking the flag 1.5 seconds clear of Ai Ogura and equalling Marc Márquez's career record for sprint wins. Behind them Marco Bezzecchi took third with three laps left at Copse to complete the first all-Aprilia podium in sprint history — on a weekend he arrived at still recovering from the collarbone and knee surgery that followed his Sachsenring crash.
The arithmetic is now brutally simple: Martín holds 220 points to Ogura's 203, and no other rider can mathematically lead the championship when the grand prix finishes. Bezzecchi sits third on 193, with Marc Márquez fourth on 191 after a sprint he would rather forget and Fabio Di Giannantonio fifth on 189. Five riders inside 31 points, at the halfway pole of the season.
The 20-lap grand prix goes at 13:00 BST on Sunday. Silverstone being Silverstone, the sky remains the largest unsigned entry on the grid.
