Two Men Can Leave Silverstone Leading the World Championship, and Both of Them Ride Aprilias
Jorge Martín won the sprint from an all-Aprilia front row to stretch his lead to 17 points. By Sunday evening only he or Ai Ogura can be on top of the standings.

Jorge Martín led every lap of Saturday's ten-lap sprint, taking the flag 1.5 seconds clear of Ai Ogura and equalling Marc Márquez's career record for sprint wins. Marco Bezzecchi took third with three laps left at Copse to complete the first all-Aprilia podium in sprint history — weeks after collarbone and knee surgery.

Martín holds 220 points to Ogura's 203, and no other rider can mathematically lead the championship when the grand prix finishes. Bezzecchi is third on 193, Marc Márquez fourth on 191, Fabio Di Giannantonio fifth on 189. The 20-lap grand prix goes at 13:00 BST on Sunday.

Verstappen's Exit Clause Is Live, and Formula 1 Has Three Weeks With Nothing Else to Talk About

By finishing the first half of 2026 sixth on 109 points, 110 behind Kimi Antonelli, Verstappen is understood to have triggered the release clause in his 2028 Red Bull deal. Mercedes lead the constructors' table on 379 to Ferrari's 307; McLaren, third on 220 after Lando Norris's Hungary win, are the other name in circulation. Racing resumes at Zandvoort on August 23 — a sprint weekend, and the Dutch Grand Prix's last for now.
